Company History
6800 Capital, L.L.C. was founded by John McDonnell in 1988 as an outgrowth of Mr. McDonnell’s experience and record in managing the personal assets of Mr. Roy Winegardner, the former Chairman of Holiday Inn Corporation. When Mr. Winegardner retired, Mr. McDonnell started the firm with Mr. Winegardner as his first client and focused on developing investment portfolios of “alternative” investment strategies.
In 1994, 6800 Capital, L.L.C. acquired the Princeton Futures Group, which was founded by Robert Keck. From 1994 through 1998, the firm maintained two offices, one in Memphis, TN and one in Princeton, NJ. In 1998, the office in Memphis was closed and consolidated with the Princeton office.
In 1995, the firm refocused its energies on the development of several proprietary alternative investment fund of funds, primarily for high net worth individuals. Today, the firm continues to be an investment manager specializing in hedge fund of funds and managed futures fund of funds. 6800 Capital, L.L.C. offers its services to wealthy individuals, families, endowments, foundations, and institutions.
6800 Capital, L.L.C. is a Delaware limited liability company and is equally owned by Poplar Management Company ("Poplar") and Keck Holdings, Inc. ("Keck"). Poplar is owned by John McDonnell and Keck is owned by Robert Keck. The firm is registered as a registered investment advisor ("RIA") with the Securities and Exchange Commission (the "SEC"), a commodity pool operator ("CPO") and commodity trading advisor ("CTA") with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (the "CFTC"), and is a member of the National Futures Association (the "NFA").
